mens-healthAccording to research Australian men have more serious health problems than women and are more likely to only attend to an illness in its later stages, leaving it way too late? Did you also know women are more likely to see an acupuncturist and complementary medicine practitioner than men and take the necessary steps to improve their health outcomes?

So these little facts got us thinking, could the fact that men have more serious health problems have to do with not seeking the right advice or make the necessary changes to improve their health?

The top causes of ill health in men are:

  • Heart disease
  • Dementia and Alzheimer’s
  • Lung cancer
  • Colon cancer
  • Strokes
  • Blood and lymph cancer
  • Prostate cancer
  • Diabetes

At Acumedica we understand the evolving needs and requirements for men to maintain a healthy body and mind. We provide evidence based complementary medicine, acupuncture and dietary approaches to minimise the risk of diabetes, heart attacks, arthritis, cholesterol, strokes, stress, bowel problems and cancer.

We also specialise in hormonal imbalances for men so if any men out there experience any of the symptoms below then you might consider getting this sorted as it is your body’s way of saying something is imbalanced. Remember hormones are our messengers to good health and disease prevention.

Symptoms of hormonal imbalance in men:

  • Rapid weight loss or gain
  • Irritability
  • Loss of muscle mass

  • Loss of libido
  • Fatigue

  • Infertility
  • Lowered stamina
  • Gallbladder problems
  • Hair loss
  • Headaches
  • Puffiness/bloating
  • Prostate enlargement

What causes hormone imbalance in men?

Between the ages of 45 and 65 there is a gradual decline in circulating testosterone (free available testosterone or FAT), there may also be a relative increase in available estrogen that binds with the same receptor sites, thus reducing the availability of testosterone (andrology.com). Other factors leading to hormone imbalance in men are insulin resistance, overweight, nutritional deficiencies, high cholesterol, insufficient or too much exercise, certain medications, occupational exposure to pesticides, organic solvents and BPA to name a few.

When we suspect a hormonal imbalance

We may recommended a number of testing procedures such as blood tests, functional pathology, and nutregenomic testing.

A personal consultation provides you with a strategic plan for repairing and enhancing your system with the use of specific nutritional, herbal, lifestyle and dietary modifications. We also recommended a course of acupuncture treatments based on your Chinese Medicine diagnosis to further enhance your lifestyle changes and gain greater hormonal balance.

As the men of China have benefited from the use of this medicine for increased sexual performance for thousands of years. Acupuncture not only treats sexual dysfunction symptoms, but also helps with the physical and psychological causes of these symptoms.
